My Journey
Hi, I’m Sandie.
My money journey hit a pivotal point when I bought my first house. When I received the first mortgage bill, I looked at my checkbook and realized I could not afford the place. Something had to change. I knew I had two choices: cut spending or increase my income. I chose to do both.
I was on a mission to figure out how to manage my money. I searched for a book on budgets and came up with nothing. I found lots of books on how to invest your cash, which was no help to me. I finally found a book that offered a strategy on how to manage your money. After consuming this book, I launched Excel and began to create the worksheets offered in the book. I plugged in my numbers and …. became depressed. There just wasn’t enough money coming in to afford the basics and have fun money.
Earning more money became essential. I set my intention to find a better-paying job. I was mid-way through earning a Master’s degree and hoped this would allow me to demand higher pay. Once I set the intention to earn more money and believed I deserved more money, I was offered an opportunity to interview for a position that would increase my salary by $20k. I was ecstatic and grateful to the guy who opened this door for me.
I tracked all my spending in my Excel budget spreadsheet. I calculated my spending categories and began making conscious decisions about how and when I spent money. For the past 20 years, I have adapted my budget spreadsheet to reflect my current life. It’s the one file I cannot live without.
I love to share my strategies and experiences. That’s why I created Women Managing Money. If I had a money coach all those years ago, I would have accelerated my learning and had a support system to get me where I wanted to go. It would be my honor to work with you and to be a part of your journey.
